Brussels has a Pantone Hotel, and it’s a world wide exclusive! Pantone’s claim to fame began 45 years ago with its revolutionary color matching system that allowed designers to reproduce accurate color anywhere in the world. Today the company is branching out and moving into lifestyle- oriented industries using the same color numbering system.
As the company began expanding, Pantone decided to construct a hotel as part of the new “Pantone Universe” campaign. For this they revamped a sixties building in uptown Brussels. Designed by Michel Penneman and Oliver Hannaert, the hotel fully embodies the company, as “the hotel of colors… showcases the color of emotion with a distinctive hue on each colorous guest floor.”
From a design perspective, The Pantone Hotel is built on an exceptional use of contrast, a white canvas provides clean space for saturated colors to pop. Each room is decorated in one of seven color palettes: “earthy, rich” “daring, fiery” “vibrant, intense” “cheerful, warm” “captivating, esteemed, silky” “fresh, eager” and “tranquil, aquatic, exhilarating”. Guest rooms feature unique photography by esteemed Belgian photographer Victor Levy. While BaseDesign did the logo and identity for the Hotel, referring the iconic Pantone chip.
The Pantone Hotel’s official launch and opening party is scheduled for June 24. But don’t worry, you can immediately sleep in as the rooms are affordable. Hotel deal sites are already listing them at well under €100/night, a fine deal for uptown Brussels. That’s why the I Love Belgium team decided to go for some colour therapy.
